An Update from Long Eaton Rugby Club

Long Eaton RFC Season review 2014/15

Long Eaton RFC season 2014/15 has been an outstanding year, both on and off the pitch. The year started with the opening of our new £300,000 changing room extension, something that has made LERFC the envy of the visiting clubs players and supporters.

The Colts claimed the silverware for the club this season in the NLD Colts Shield Final with a 29-27 win over Ashby RFC Colts. The Seniors have produced two players who represented Derbyshire, Ryan Beresford (centre)and Kallan Keenan (Prop). Two of the clubs Colts, Declan Neary and Michael Hawksworth have been selected to the NLD U18 squad for next season and the youth section has also offered up some outstanding talent. Tom Kelly, Fin Nason and Alex Richmond from the U14’s and Harvey Phipps from the U13’s have gained places on the Leicester Tigers Developing Player Programme.

The club recently had their awards night and Leicester Tigers flanker, Julian Salvi, presented awards to Ryan Beresford, Player of the Year. James Wakefield, Junior player of the year and Harry Phipps received young player of the year.

Phil Milton, LERFC’s Director of Rugby has taken on the RFU’s role as Community Rugby Coach for Leicestershire and the Club’s Chairman, Chris Brookes, has been appointed the Academy Manager for the Championship team, Nottingham Rugby.

Looking forward to next season, work started on two more pitches at West Park, additional floodlighting will be erected to offer better training facilities through the winter months allowing for the main pitch to be kept intact for major matches. There are also several other upgrades being made to areas in and around the clubhouse. There are even bigger targets on the pitch, they have secured the services of Nottingham Rugby’s Conor Carey, who will be one of their Forwards coaches for the Seniors and Colts, he is also joined by former Harrogate RUFC Captain, Jimmy Browne. Recruitment is always on the agenda, this season they want to bolster the senior teams. With the new coaching structure and coaches like Conor and Jimmy on board, it appears, exciting times beckon.

The club are looking to raise funds for the floodlight scheme, if you would like to make a donation towards this project please follow the link below.
